Connectome Ultraviolet Illuminator

Connectome Ultraviolet Illuminator is an ultraviolet fiber art platform for visualizing connectome models in real 3D. It is comprised of eight polycarbonate cross sections of an MRI covered in transparent mesh, creating a transparent 3D canvas for depicting connectomes. Fluorescent yarn is threaded through the brain cross sections to depict neural pathways. Connectome Illuminator is both light and motion interactive and includes an integrated bank of ultraviolet lights and a vibration motor. When the vibration motor is activated, the ultraviolet yarn 'neural pathways' shimmer in a bath of ultraviolet light. Connectome models can easily be added and removed.

The 3D MRI model is from an MRI taken of Dr. Ting Xu.

I will be documenting the entire project here within the next few days: https://hackaday.io/project/165846-connectome-illuminator

A few people from CMI (including Ting) are going to OHBM in Rome. If you really like the project, I can send it to Rome with them and you can take a look for yourself.
