Scaling the connectome: From single cells to the most complex network

Katja Heuer, Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences
The axons of single cells connect via white mater pathways to other parts of the brain and build up the human connectome. The image combines the different scales of histological microscopy of a stained section of the cortex with in vivo diffusion imaging and tractography showing the medium scale of the white matter pathways to build the entire brain network at a macroscopic scale.
